Creating a Partnership for Our Children

In addition to tuition and fees, St. Mark’s raises funds from special gifts, the Lion’s Pride Fund, and fundraisers such as the Ortega River Run and the annual Auction to help balance the annual operating budget and advance our mission. St. Mark’s has been blessed during the past four decades with generous parents and patrons who embrace and support the mission of our school.

We need your help to grow and thrive, so we can continue to provide families with our unique educational programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 3 frequently asked questions.

  • Q: Why does St. Mark’s need to ask for additional financial support beyond tuition?

At St. Mark’s, as at most independent schools, we rely on philanthropic gifts in addition to tuition and endowment returns to balance the budget each year. Tuition and fees covers approximately 90% of the school’s operating budget. Gifts from parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty, staff, trustees, and other friends fund a portion of the remaining 10%. There are several opportunities for you to partner with us each year in this effort, a summary of which can be found in the St. Mark’s Guide to Philanthropy.
  • Q: Why doesn’t the school simply increase tuition?

We strive to keep tuition as affordable as possible and appropriate for our market. At the same time, we also must offer competitive salaries and benefits and have first class programs, technology, and facilities. A strong development program allows the school to do this without dramatically increasing tuition. In addition, gifts are fully tax deductible, while tuition is not.
  • Q: Why are there so many fundraising programs at St. Mark’s and which one is most important?

All the fundraising programs here at St. Mark’s serve different purposes and may appeal to certain members of the community more than others. While widespread participation is important for each of the programs, we encourage all families to consider making The Lion’s Pride Fund their top philanthropic priority here at the school each year. Click here to learn more about the Lion’s Pride Fund.
