After School Activities

Children are unique, and so are their interests! St. Mark’s After School Activities are available to students who want to further a specific interest.

Activities will run throughout the year in three sessions. Sign ups will be available on this page below the descriptions for the two weeks prior to the start of the activities. All instructors have been fingerprinted, background checked, and have taken Safeguarding God’s Children.

A complete listing of activities and the sign up form will be available two weeks prior to each session. Pro-rated rates are not available if registering after the class has begun.

  • MONDAYS

    Marketing For Kids
    Grades: 4th - 6th
    Instructor: SPARK business academy instructor
    Time: 3:30 - 4:30 PM

    Students will use their creativity in a hands-on environment to learn how marketing plays a key role in the success of a business. Using popular companies, like Apple, Nike and others, students create marketing flyers, design logos, draft slogans, make up jingles and even make a “commercial” for a product of their choosing, learning the importance of communicating with your customers. The 4 Ps of marketing (product, place, price and promotion) provide a simple framework for this creative class.

    Join Mrs. Tedi Hamilton for fun with food. We will create fun and delicious treats. We will incorporate fruits and veggies into our list of yummy treats. Cooking can be fun, creative, and full of discovery.
     
    Jr. Lions Cheer Team

    If you are ready to open the world of endless possibilities for your child, come learn Spanish by playing and having fun at FALA. At FALA you will find all of the fun clubs in one club! Children will learn and test their Spanish through fun STEM activities, Cooking, Art, and Soccer. We will travel the world with Vernie the robot as he helps us to code in Spanish; we will also explore and embrace Spanish culture as we discover some famous artists, and inventors. Your children will improve problem solving, multitasking, creative skills, self-confidence and experience enhanced brain development as they are learning Spanish.
     
    Give your child the gift of knowing a second language and watch them take Spanish to the next level!

    Join the co-ed St. Mark's Soccer Team! We will compete against teams from several other area independent schools. Coach Taylor will lead the team helping players become more knowledgeable about rules and help to build skills.
     
    "GIG - Guys Inspiring Guys"

    We live in a culture that encourages competition and praises coming out on top. GIG is an opportunity for guys to gather for activities with an intentional focus on sportsmanship, teamwork and encouraging one another. Guys will walk away with valuable insight gleaned through fun games and exposure to inspirational role models as they affirm one another along the way. In a nutshell, we will have a blast bringing out the best in one another!

    This innovative class on financial literacy lays the foundation for healthy financial habits early in life, empowering students with the mindset to start making sound financial decisions and develop into responsible global citizens. Role-playing and fun activities keep students engaged.

    The Knight School is coming to St Mark's Episcopal Day School and our Chess Team wants you! Beginners are welcome. Take the plunge and join Coach Al as we laugh and train in daily mardi-gras bead chess tourneys and compete for prizes in our daily music-driven chess puzzlers and watch zany chess movies. There has never been a party-based approach to chess like this. Our high-energy chess classes are developmentally and cleverly targeted directly at the pre- kindergarten age group. Come join the fun as kids learn to love learning, learn that they are unspeakably smart, and learn how to absolutely cream their parents in chess!

    Come create and build! We will build cars, race them on a track, and find out which one is faster and why. The group activities will encourage team building skills. Other projects include space, buildings, houses, towers, and on and on.
     
     "GIGGLES - Girls Inspiring Girls to Grow, Love, Empathize and Serve"
    Grade: 5th - 6th Grade Girls

    A time for girls to gather and live out the GIGGLES acronym by Growing together, Loving unconditionally, Empathizing sincerely and Serving unselfishly. Through team building games and service learning opportunities girls will walk away with a greater appreciation of themselves and others.
     
    Create, Cook, Connect with Cuisine
    Grades: 4th - 6th
    Instructor: Chef Christy
    Time: 3:30-4:30
    Dates: February 27 - May 8 (when school is in session)
    Location: Commons Kitchen

    Students will work with Chef Christy to learn the recipe to successful menu planning and execution. You will have fun learning about different ingredients and how to prepare them Final project you will how to prepare and cook a meal to be served to your parents on the last day of the course. Need to wear closed toe shoes. Must wear a hat or a hairnet will be provided.

    The bots are back, and this time they brought some new friends with them! Together, we will design and code a variety of robot models engineered to complete missions and tasks that require programmed motors, sensors, and attachments. The core robot brick system and programming software is designed for all skill levels. For those who complete their robot builds and are ready for additional practice, the official Lego League bots with accompanying motors, sensors, and attachments will also be available for more advanced robot design and programming practice.
     
    Let’s Get Ready To Tumble! (Gymnastics/Acro Classes)

    Be The Light Dance Company is coming to St. Mark’s Episcopal Day School. Get ready to tumble with Mrs. Nesia and Ms. Danielle as they teach proper skills and techniques for gymnastics. No experience is needed. From the conditioning and flexibility warm up to flip time on the mat, your children will step into weekly classes designed for their individual skill level.     Fun With Music is an entertaining and educational offering for young children. Your child will sing and move with all kinds of music and songs including game songs, songs from the heart of American traditions and some contemporary tunes as well. We’ll learn about music basics such as rhythm, melody and sound. We’ll create hand-made instruments and make music together. We’ll discover and experience music from other parts of the world. Instructor, Lee Hunter, has 25 years of experience teaching private music lessons and traveling the country doing educational outreach for students of all ages.
     
    Exploring the Wonders of Music

    Students learn how to develop persuasive arguments while debating a different topic in every class. Students work in rotating groups and practice their debating skills in a supportive, friendly environment, including:
    • Developing arguments
    • Issuing rebuttals
    • Providing examples
    • Rebuilding their case
    • Summarizing points of view
    Students learn to prepare their arguments, prioritize their ideas and think on their feet, developing their public-speaking skills and gaining self-confidence in the process.
