During their last few science classes of the school year, fourth grade students were tasked with building marble roller coasters. With tracks and supports made entirely out of paper and lots of tape, the students experimented how to make a marble drop, twist, and turn. Working in teams, they carefully followed instructions and learned the laws of motion.
After much planning, testing, and re-evaluating the groups successfully created their rides. They had fun showing off and explaining the design of their coasters to other students who came to view and play with the projects.
"Fourth graders loved working on this challenge," said science teacher, Laura Fackler. "They couldn't wait to get started each class period and kept working through their failures, trying and trying until they succeeded."
