Fourth grade students were tasked in science class with building marble roller coasters. With tracks made out of paper and cardboard tubes, supporting structures of water bottles, and lots of tape, the students experimented with how to make a marble drop, twist, and turn. They worked in teams carefully following instructions and learning the laws of motion.
After much planning, testing, and re-evaluating the groups successfully created their rides. They had fun showing off and explaining the design of their coasters to other students who came to view the projects.
"Fourth graders loved working on this challenge," said science teacher, Laura Fackler. "They couldn't wait to get started each class period and kept working through their failures, trying and trying until they succeeded."
