St. Mark's first grade students have been busy practicing their letter writing and reading skills this school year through a pen pal relationship with fifth grade students from Gainesville Country Day School.
As an exciting conclusion to this fun learning experience, the first and fifth graders recently met in Stockton Park to enjoy a picnic lunch, reading time, and play time together.
As a former teacher at Gainesville Country Day, first grade teacher, Ms. Claire Pulignano, began this partnership to give her students an engaging way to work on their reading and writing. "They are always excited to write to and receive letters from the "big kids" of a school in another city," said Ms. Pulignano. "It was a special and unique opportunity for the pen pals to meet face-to-face, and we hope they all treasure the memories they made forever."
