Second graders are busy studying insects during science class. This week they focused on the intricate society within a bee hive by role playing the many jobs and duties bees have.
Their busy bee activities this week:
Inside the the hive as house bees, they cared for baby bees, cleaned the hive, constructed honeycomb, and made honey from nectar.
Pictured are the second graders portraying the bee responsibilities outside of the hive as foraging bees. Guard bees stood by and guarded the hive (using high-fives as a "passcode") as other foragers collected nectar, pollen, water, and propolis (resin from trees).
These lessons helped bring to life the busy lives of bees, allowing the students to gain a deeper understanding of the insect.
