First graders are proud to report they collected 1,108 pairs of shoes to give to people in need through Soles4Souls, a global not-for-profit institution dedicated to fighting the devastating impact and perpetuation of poverty.
The students celebrated with a send-off as they loaded over 30 bags of shoes into vehicles headed to the local Soles4Souls collection site. They put their math skills to work as they sorted, paired, and counted all the donations that came from St. Mark's families.
Some of the recipients of this year's collection will be children at a school in Haiti. The first graders learned about Haiti, its culture, its challenges, and its people - making the service tangible to them.
