We hold school on Veterans Day to celebrate our service men and women together as a community.
First through sixth graders participated in a special Chapel service on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, to give thanks for all who have served or are currently serving. Many families of the school are stationed at NAS Jacksonville, and many parents, grandparents, and even faculty/staff members are serving or have served in the military.
Students were encouraged to invite someone currently or formerly in the military to join them. This annual service, filled with patriotic hymns, brought many guests and featured a guest military speaker. Commander Joseph Kovacocy, USN (and a parent of two students at the school) delivered a meaningful message about why we say “THANK YOU” to service members.
The NAS Jacksonville Color Guard presented the colors at the conclusion of the service and led all in attendance outside to circle the school’s flagpole to raise the flag, say of the Pledge of Allegiance, and sing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”
Following the service students and guests visited the ‘Hero Wall’ where pictures of students’ friends and family members who are currently serving or have served were displayed. The wall will be up in the Commons Lobby through Friday.
