6th Manatee Encounter

6th graders enjoyed a special study trip to the Crystal River in Homosassa to snorkel with manatees! With the guidance of River Ventures tours, supporters of an animal friendly environment and manatee sensitive practices, the students had a safe and educational experience and gave the animals the respect they deserve.

The students shared an incredible experience with each other and their teachers, learning a lot and making unforgetable memories.

According to science teacher, Jennie Busey, "In science we have have just finished our studies of ecology and as part of our studies we took an in depth look the the West Indian Manatee's ecosystem, anatomy and phylogeny. The culmination of our studies was a trip to Crystal River to to swim with manatee in their spring habitat. It was the best field trip ever complete with manatee kisses and belly scratches."
