Third Grade Florida Day

"Down in Jacksonville" Third grade Florida Day Song from St. Mark's Episcopal Day School on Vimeo.

Third grade's social studies curriculum closely examines the history of our state and city. From early explorers to wars and from politics to modern-day economics, the students brought this information to life. Every student proudly took center stage, dressed as an historical figure to inform and entertain the audience with their knowledge. Following the performance, students became a living-history museum standing by several of their projects they completed, giving more facts to their peers and parents in attendance.

The event also featured a "taste of Florida" with snacks and treats representing the agriculture and interests of our home state.

Another special moment during the morning featured Margaret Foerster, who was the first third grade teacher at St. Mark's, and is currently grandmother to Gracie H., in third grade.  She also hosted a Jacksonville History show on Channel 4 called "Your Town and Mine,"  writing the show's theme song "Down in Jacksonville." Third grade students invited her on stage with them to sing her song during their Florida Day presentation
