God’s Little Bear Hugs

The second grade service project is to help and give love t0 the children served by St. Mary’s. The do this through making “God’s Little Bear Hugs.” St.  Mary’s Episcopal Church and Outreach Mission serves north Jacksonville and the Springfield  community by providing food, clothing, furniture, and counseling resources to those in need.

The students held a school-wide teddy bear drive in November, collecting 74 bears! Then, they wrote notes and drew pictures telling about God’s love.  To create the final “God’s Little Bear Hugs” packages, they wrapped a bear and a note together and sent them to St. Mary’s for children who are in need.

Before the Bear Hugs were sent, a special chapel was held to bless the bears. Sue Charmichael, the Lay Vicar of St. Mary’s, joined us in song and prayer, and thanked our students for their wonderful gifts of God’s love.
