Library

Our library contains over 20,000 books and is an essential part of our educational program. Under the guidance of a full-time Librarian and an assistant, our students use the library for research, to learn library skills, and for pleasure. Every student visits the library regularly and is encouraged to check out books to enjoy at home and in the classroom. The library is a spacious building with a reading loft, a storytime nook, and computers for online catalog look-up.

The school library strives to be a user-friendly media center. Books, periodicals, reference materials, professional materials, audio-visual materials and equipment are available to both the school and the school community. Students and their parents are encouraged to use the library for research, enrichment and enjoyment. Students are instructed in library and research skills, and the library staff provides an enriching environment that fosters literature appreciation.

All books are labeled with their Accelerated Reader (AR) level and students are able to take AR quizzes on the computers located in the library. This online program helps to personalize and guide independent reading and is fun for the students.

The library offers a Birthday Book purchase/donation program in order to enhance and increase the collection of books. The birthday books are highlighted with a monthly chapel blessing.

The St. Mark’s library program focuses on helping students develop and appreciation of books and learn effective research skills. The goals of the program are to:

  • Encourage a life long appreciation of literature.
  • Enable students to locate and critically evaluate information.
  • Guide students in accessing the resources of the library appropriately.
  • Expose students to visiting authors and their works.
  • Expose students to a variety of literary genre.
